We love a good old fashioned wedding but we also love a good old fashioned love story and this is sure to be one to melt your hearts.
Sharing the love today is the story of Katherine an American student studying for a semester abroad and Steven an English gent enjoying a weekend away in the cultural city of Amsterdam where the couple were destined to meet.
It really was a case of love at first sight for these two, a chance meeting on a night out resulted in the couple becoming inseparable – difficult when they lived at the opposite sides of the world. Despite the distance the couple were able to maintain their relationship for a year via video chats and rather expensive trips back and forth from London to Chicago. A year later as Katherine arrived at Heathrow for another visit Steve got down on one knee and proposed in exactly the same spot where the proposal from Katherine’s favourite film ‘Love Actually’ was filmed.
The couple made the gruelling decision that it would be Steven that would be the one to make the move to Chicago and on the 5th December 2010 they married with both American and English family and friends present.
Katherine and Steve had a traditional Lutheran ceremony at a church in Katherine’s hometown, Batavia, Illinois. The couple wanted to maintain a traditional theme throughout the wedding ceremony and so chose music from composers Pachelbel and Handel.
The wedding reception was held at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles. IL. Katherine and Steve had decided to choose songs from their favourite movies, to fit with the theme of the proposal for their reception and so entered to the theme tune from Austin Powers and had their first dance to “Make up Kisses” from P.S. I Love you.
Katherine wore an off-white fit-and-flare strapless dress designed from the James Clifford Collection, with lace appliqué, crystals and pearls and Royal Blue Suede heels to add a touch of glam and to offset the wedding theme.
The Christmas season was the backdrop for much of decoration at the reception venue which was decorated in blue, white, gold and silver Christmas decorations. As an added touch, Steve surprised Katherine by having the florist put blue fairy lights in the centrepieces to help set the ambience in the room.
“It was a truly special day, and one that we will remember as being filled with the love of our families and friends from both sides of the ocean”.
